Saturday Qi Gong Classes

Posted on Oct 14, 2018

We are pleased to announce that Shifu Yan Xiu will now be teaching Qi Gong classes every Saturday at Highgate Newtown Community Centre. Classes will last for one hour and will take place after our regular kung fu classes.

What is Qi Gong?

Qi Gong (Life Energy Cultivation) is an important part of Shaolin Kung Fu. It’s function is to accumulate the inner strength to support the activities of the physical body.

It is regarded as an internal martial art that manifests the power of the mind. Therefore, students are encouraged to practice Qi Gong-internal training in order to enhance the physical training-Kung Fu.

Qi Gong consists of coordinated body posture and movement, breathing, and meditation used for health, spirituality, and martial arts training. With roots in Chinese medicine, philosophy, and martial arts, qigong is traditionally viewed as a practice to cultivate and balance qi.

Qigong practice typically involves moving meditation, coordinating slow flowing movement, deep rhythmic breathing, and calm meditative state of mind.
