Shi Yan Xiu - UK

Fan Qiang, born in Anhui Province in 1983, showed early interest and natural ability in Kung Fu. With his parents’ encouragement, he joined the Shaolin Temple at the age of six. After eleven years of rigorous training in Shaolin martial arts, he was formally accepted as a disciple of Abbot Shi Yongxin and received the Dharma name Shi Yan Xiu, becoming a 34th-generation Shaolin disciple.

In 2004, after many years of teaching and training, he was promoted to Chief Instructor of Shaolin Kung Fu. He has competed internationally, winning top honours and gold medals, and has participated in performances worldwide.

Notably:1997 – Represented Shaolin Temple in martial arts demonstrations during the Hong Kong handover to

China.1998 – Joined a cultural exchange programme with Shaolin warrior monks, performing in more than 50 countries.

Recognised for his humility and talent, he came under the guidance of Shi Yan Zhen, one of the most respected masters of Shaolin Medicine. Under his mentorship, Shi Yan Xiu trained extensively in Shaolin medicine, focusing on Tui Na (traditional therapeutic massage), in which he is now highly skilled.

Today, Shifu Yan Xiu resides in London, dividing his time between teaching Shaolin martial arts and practising Tui Na. His lifelong wish is to preserve and promote authentic Shaolin Kung Fu and philosophy through teaching, performance, and the healing arts.
